My name is Lynn and I have been a counsellor and psychotherapist in Whitton, Twickenham near Teddington and Hampton for the past 10 years. I provide counselling and psychotherapy in a confidential environment and with a non-judgmental attitude. I know making the decision to contact a counsellor or psychotherapist can be difficult. I hope this website will help you make that first step by contacting me for an initial discussion.

Talking is not always the whole answer. Sometimes a deeper sense of change and understanding requires learning to focus on your internal bodily awareness - attending to the inside of your body and staying with it through the fuzzy stage so that your body, in its own way, provides its own answers to many of your problems. This requires slowing down and staying with what is happening or not happening in a particular moment and from moment to moment. It is also listening to those thoughts inside your head and slowing down to identify what they are saying so you can make conscious choices

Can I help you?
I am experienced in helping people who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties, symptoms or a sense of life is not quite how they wish it to be. Some of the problems I am able to help with are below although I cannot cover everything here so please ring me to enquire if I can help with your issue.

  • Have you experienced a Traumatic Life Experience such as a abuse, an assault, a road traffic accident or had a life threatening medical diagnosis? If you are having difficulty coping with this type of incident counselling can often help. Sometimes symptoms of depression or anxiety are experienced and not linked by yourself or other professionals to the trauma you have experienced. You may find yourself being more snappy, easily triggered into crying, avoiding the place of the incident or things connected with it or having intrusive thoughts (i.e. thinking about what happened even though you don't want to) By processing the trauma, often using a specific trauma focused style of therapy such as eye movement reprocessing and desensitization (EMDR) your other symptoms may also be resolved. Post traumatic stress symptoms may also be experienced if you have witnessed an incident - you do not have to have been directly involved. It is not necessarily the incident that defines trauma, it is your response to it.

  • Do you have feelings of being stressed - These can include symptoms in your body such as heart racing, fast breathing or a sense of your body and mind going too fast. Learning mindfulness can often help you regain control of your life and reduce your symptoms.

  • Some people have Panic Attacks that include breathing difficulties and heart racing or a sense you have to get out of where you are. Counselling can help you recover from these symptoms, sometimes using EMDR.

  • Anxiety and Depression are common mental health problems. 1 in 4 people are likely to have a mental health problem at some point in their life. Coming to see me for psychotherapy or counselling in my practice near Hounslow, Twickenham and Teddington can help you recover from these whether you are taking medication or not.

  • Bereavement - Grieving is normal after the loss of someone but some people find it more difficult to cope with their life afterwards. Seeing a counsellor can often help you do this.

  • Work Place Issues such as bullying, harassment, redundancy etc. are difficult to live with especially if your self-esteem or self-worth are affected by your job and career. Bullying and Harassment can cause anxiety, stress or a sense of loss of control or helplessness. Counselling can help you take back control of your life and sense of who you are.

  • Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse (emotional, physical and/or sexual) can experience a wide range of symptoms labelled as depression, anxiety, complex post traumatic stress disorder (C PTSD), addictions, dissociation and relationship problems. Psychotherapy can help you understand what has happened to you and regain a sense of control and trust of yourself and others. I am interested in helping you break down the labels to identify what you want to change in your life so you have different choices for the future.

  • Phobias such as those of spiders, flying, dogs, needles, dentists etc can be life limiting. If you want to change your life, counselling can help you recover from these types of phobias, whether caused by an adverse life experience or you don't know why.
